Coe Hill farmer’s market open Fridays, Saturdays; looking for more vendors

By Monica Verhoeven COE HILL — Although there were lots of activities going on Friday and Saturday, many people stopped by for a quick look at the Coe Hill farmer’s market near the Royal Canadian Legion. We had only a couple of vendors, but now, the word is out that the market is open. Because of the poor weather earlier in the spring, local produce isn’t yet available. I’ve been in contact with a couple of local farmers, and they figure that another couple of weeks should do the trick, and then we’ll have...

Parkings stays in $20,000 village square pedestrian area at Coe Hill post office

COE HILL – Work starts in two weeks on a $20,000 “village square” public meeting space in front of the post office. The controversial project will proceed, even though the township’s volunteer revitalization committee rejected the idea of mixing parking spaces with people gathered to talk on benches. At its May 10, 2011 meeting, Wollaston Township council voted 4-1 to proceed with the project in June. Here’s what was passed, according to the draft minutes of the meeting: “Be it resolved that the Council of Wollaston Twp directs staff to proceed with the completion...

Parking plans for Coe Hill post office discussed Thursday

COE HILL — Redesign of a new town square in Coe Hill to retain parking spots in front of the post office is up for public discussion tonight. Last week, council backtracked on plans to remove the parking, after complaints it would make access difficult for seniors wanting to use the post office. Instead, the township’s revitalization committee was directed to redesign the plans...

Ban on roadside signs requested in Wollaston Township

COE HILL – New rules to control roadside business signs nailed to trees and fences are in the works for Wollaston Township. Township council received an eight-name petition of Coe Hill residents, asking the township prohibit posting of advertising signs along roadways. “They are an eyesore, they cause damage to the trees by the screws and/or large nails used and do not fit in with the idea of beautifying our area that is currently being promoted by township,” the petition says. “A number of these signs have been posted on private property without the...
