New wheelchair is now ready for use at Coe Hill Legion

Submitted by Robert Woodley COE HILL — Following a summer of delays, disappointments and lift equipment malfunctions the new lift at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 581 in Coe Hill has finally passed various tests and inspections was deemed ready for use. At the regular legion monthly meal on Sun., Jan 29th the lift was put into service for the first time. Nancy Campbell-Hubbard attended the dinner and required the use of the lift to easily enter the hall. COE HILL – Santa Claus is coming to town Dec. 17, 2011. The annual Coe Hill Santa Claus Parade is set to start at 12:30 p.m. and head through town. Organizer Rhonda Packard says anyone who wants to be part of the parade can check in at the Wollaston Township office for information or call 613-337-5731. COE HILL – The first hunt of the new elk population is underway across the Bancroft district. There are 70 hunters with licences to take one of the elk that were re-introduced to the area a decade ago.  The hunt runs Sept. 19 through Sept 25, 2011. The Ministry of Natural Resources says the intent was always to let the elk population grow to the point where it could be hunted, but one biologist told the CBC the herd’s growth rate of 20 per cent a year was a surprise. COE HILL – The Canadian Forces Skyhawks Parachute Team is booked to be part of the Sun., Sept. 4, 2011 Warriors Day events in Coe Hill, Ontario. Organizer John Irwin says a flypast by Canadian Forces Hercules transport plane, and an historic Harvard trainer, are also booked for the first time – depending on good weather. COE HILL – A Hastings Harvest Festival is planned Sat., Aug. 27, 2011 in Coe Hill. The Coe Hill Farmer’s Market Bakery and Cafe presents the event in the Wollaston Community Centre, attached to the Coe Hill Public School, 2149 Highway 620. It’s on the same weekend as the  the annual Coe Hill Fair at the fairgrounds just up the road. The celebration of foods and music of the county runs 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Admission $3 for age 12 and older.  Children admitted no charge.

COE HILL — The annual Coe Hill fair is ready to roll Friday and Saturday, Aug. 26 and 27, 2011 at the fairgrounds on old  Highway 620 – now Wollaston Township Road 620. The fair was founded in 1882. In conjunction with the fair, a Sun., Aug 28, 2011 service is planned at the Old Ormsby Heritage Church, where visitors on horseback are invited.  The service starts at 11 a.m.  in the church on the Old Hastings Road, just south of old Highway 620.
