NORTH KAWARTHA Twp. – On Thursday February 9, 2012 at approximately 2:17 P.M. officers from the Peterborough County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped and investigated a driving complaint involving the driver of a white Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Chevrolet Silverado on McFadden Road in the Village of Apsley.

As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old Apsley man has been charged for Impaired Driving and Driving with a Blood/Alcohol Level Exceeding the Legal Limit.

He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Peterborough on Thurs., March 29, 2012.

PETERBOROUGH COUNTY– Officers from Peterborough County Detachment and members of the Smith-Ennismore Fire Department are reminding everyone yet again that no ice can be considered 100% safe for travel by any motorized recreational vehicle, automobile or truck at this time of year.

Due to unseasonably inconsistent weather, the ice conditions on the majority of the County’s lakes and rivers should not be considered safe.

Two vehicles in the past 48 hours have gone through the ice on Chemong Lake but both drivers escaped without serious injury.

Those persons using their personal vehicles for access to ice fishing huts or for travel across the lake are strongly advised to reconsider before venturing out onto the ice.

SMITH-ENNISMORE_LAKEFIELD- – On Thursday February 9, 2012 at approximately 6:45 P.M. Smith Ennismore Fire Department, Peterborough County OPP and Peterborough County Ambulance responded to a vehicle that had gone through the ice on Chemong Lake between the 12th Line of Smith and Curve Lake First Nation.

The victims were travelling on the ice road between Curve Lake and Bridgenorth when their vehicle broke through and entered the lake. The two male occupants escaped the vehicle into the water as it began to submerge and were rescued by a local resident and Township firefighters after approximately 30 minutes.

Both males were treated for exposure by paramedics and released.

The vehicle, a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer, sank completely with no access for removal by a tow service and Ministry of the Environment has been notified.

Due to poor ice conditions the public is reminded to consider all travel on area lakes andrivers, whether on foot or by vehicle, hazardous.

COE HILL — On Saturday the 04th of February 2012, the Bancroft OPP and Wollaston Township Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire on Township Road 620 in Wollaston Township.

Investigation revealed that the house was vacant at the time of the fire.

BANCROFT – On Friday the 03rd of February 2012, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received the report of a snowmobile collision on a snowmobile trail in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands.

Investigation revealed that a Yamaha snowmobile entered a ditch and rolled onto the driver.

William Huber, 50, of Alymer, Ontario was transported by vehicle to St. Francais Memorial Hospital in Barry’s Bay. Mr. Huber sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.

On Saturday the 04th of February 2012, the Bancroft OPP was dispatched to the report of a snowmobile collision on Baptiste Lake in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands.

Investigation revealed that an Arctic Cat snowmobile struck a piece of ice on the lake and the driver fell off.

Kenneth Hubbeard, 52,  of Fraserville, Ontario was transported by vehicle to Quinte Healthcare North Hastings with minor injuries.

There were no charges laid in either of the collisions and both drivers were wearing helmets.

BANCROFT – On Sunday the 05th of February 2012, the Bancroft OPP responded to the report of a break and enter to a seasonal residence on Egan Creek Road in Tudor-Cashel Township.

Property reported stolen included a red Kawasaki 650 ATV, chainsaw and log splitter.

On Saturday the 04th of February 2012, the Bancroft OPP was dispatched to a break and enter on highway 62 in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands.

Sometime between 7:30 p.m. on the 03rd of February and 1:30 a.m. on the 04th of February the residence was forcibly entered. No property was reported stolen.

On Saturday the 04th of February 2012, the Bancroft OPP received the report of a vehicle entered on Dyno Road in the Municipality of Highlands East.

Sometime overnight the vehicle was damaged and entered. CD’s and paperwork was stolen from the vehicle.

A new roof over the outdoor Coe Hill skating rink is taking shape in August 2011.

NORTH KAWARTHA Twp. – On Saturday February 4, 2012 officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) investigated Illegal Hunting and Break and Enter to a Hull’s Road address.

Ministry of Natural Resources officers and their Canine Unit had earlier responded to a complaint of illegal hunting in the Hull’s Road area. They had tracked a wounded deer, locating its carcass and then tracked the suspected hunter and companion.

During the track the officers located a shed that had been forcibly entered and notified the OPP.

As a result of the investigation, a resident of a Hull’s Road home,  age 21 years, has been charged by police for three counts of breach of probation, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited and breaking and entering.

A Peterborough man had been visiting the house and was charged by police for Breach of Probation and Breaking and Entering.

The investigation is continuing and further charges (MNR) are pending.

L’AMABLE – On Tuesday the 31st of January 2012, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to the report of vehicles entered in the L’Amable area.

Sometime overnight several vehicles were entered on Grove Lane and Bay Lake road. Property reported stolen included a CB radio and GPS.

The Bancroft OPP would like to remind Bancroft and area residents to protect their vehicles from theft and the theft of contents in it.

A professional can steal a vehicle in less than 30 seconds and an unlocked vehicle or open window is an easy target. You can protect your vehicle from theft by following a few precautions:

• Always roll up your windows, lock the doors and pocket they key, even at your residence.

• Never leave valuables such as wallets or GPS units in your vehicle.

• If you have a garage, use it and lock your vehicle and the garage door.

• Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running.
