Smith Ennismore Fire Department, Peterborough County OPP and Peterborough County Ambulance responded to a vehicle that had gone through the ice on Chemong Lake between the 12th Line of Smith and Curve Lake First Nation.

The victims were travelling on the ice road between Curve Lake and Bridgenorth when their vehicle broke through and entered the lake. The two male occupants escaped the vehicle into the water as it began to submerge and were rescued by a local resident and Township firefighters after approximately 30 minutes.

Both males were treated for exposure by paramedics and released.

The vehicle, a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer, sank completely with no access for removal by a tow service and Ministry of the Environment has been notified.
